This clip, currently doing the viral circuit, is supposedly of a new Apple Tablet (aka MacTablet aka TabletMac aka iPad aka Apple Slate).
However, the clickerati have not yet decided whether to hail it as an exciting leak or a very clever fake. Either way, we hope something like it will be coming to a Mac store sometime soon. It’s Awe-some! (And makes Amazon’s Kindle look like a poorly crafted children’s toy.)

what need will I have for a tablet device? I LOVE gadgets, but not for gadget sake… I still cannot figure out what consumer need I would have that this device could satisfy. I still read books, i surf the web on my laptop, use my smart phone for on the go…. Amazon didn’t make it known very well why you would need a kindle (apart from ebooks) [especially if you were buying in AUS at double price]. can someone explain why you would need one? [apart from it looking cool]

Totally disagree Josh. I guess that just means I’m in the target audience and you aren’t. My wife isn’t either. But plenty of people I know (try to) read e-books on their iPhone. This sort of device would be fantastic for that.
The problem will be that, being Apple, it will cost a lot. The rumor is that it will be cheap. But that’s probably apple-cheap.
The Crunchpad would have been great. Oh well. We’ll wait and see what Apple will want to charge us for this.

A device this size with wifi and 3G would be an absolute monty for the train-to-work crowd (you imagine buying a paper anymore if you had this?) and for proximity gaming, never mind facebook in bed. With the motion sensor, it’s kind of PSP meets wii for gaming – you can just picture groups of kids shaking the things and shouting at each other, engaged in some battle with each other.
Price for this will be somewhere between iPhone and MacBookPro. I don’t think it will be cheap Rick. Apple-cheap? Well, that’s a whole other discussion; if you’re equating low cost with high value, then I’ve got a bone to pick: I’ll take a MacBook ANYDAY over the bottom-end PC lappies, and gladly pay the extra $200.
Anyway re: the tablet – this definitely isn’t the Apple Tablet (I see some nice rendering, but nothing discernibly Apple-GUIy; I like that Apple are taking so long to release it (if they ever do) – it suggests they’re Getting It Right.

the thing is, this would be very very hard to fake. the complexity of the lighting and reflections alone would make spielbergs head steam. i think this is really a prototype, maybe a production model.
i poo pooed the ipod touch until i got one in my hand. once people start interacting with them, their wallets will loosen, they will find a way to buy them.
timing is good, the technology looks good, i think it will be a hit.
