A big graphic on the Business Behind Facebook

In the online world, it seems there is not much demand for large graphics of this nature, despite their effectiveness at explaining an often complex message or set of principles. (We know this because we measure traffic with the obsessive zeal of a quantity surveyor on speed.) However, when we received a polite invitation from OnlineSchools.org to post a big graphic on the rise of Facebook, we couldn't resist.

The chart is called the 'Four Models of Communication', devised to explain communication trends that have emerged largely as a result of new technology and social media. Firstly, it's worth magnifying and checking out in detail. Secondly, given Trevor Young's prescient understanding of new media, I'm hoping that it signals a return to the big graphic!

While Rentoid contains the everyday items you'd expect to see listed (chainsaws, ladders, laptop computers, air conditioners, etc.) there are also some deliciously oddball items. You can rent an island, sports cars, private jets, a unicycle, a driveway, a full-size wrestling ring, an R2D2 projector, even a wife (listed in the "antique" category).
