What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. Behold, our 2012 30under30 Honourable Mentions! More.
Guy Pearson, NSW (b. 1983)
Name: Guy Pearson
Age: 28 (as of 1 August 2012)
Born: December 1983
Known for: Interactive Accounting
Guy Pearson is dragging the accounting profession kicking and screaming into the modern age.
All the paperwork, inflexibility, suits and ties? So 20th century.
He pitches his business, Interactive Accounting, as a forward-thinking firm casting off these heavy burdens.
Interactive utilises Xero cloud-based software to give clients more than traditional bookkeeping services, also scaling its services for business that want to grow, and even expand overseas.
“I’m looking to bring technology to solve these bottlenecks and brick walls to better serve the SME market and shake it up,” says Pearson, also the brains behind two partner sites, practiceignition.com and mypir.com.
He credits his ‘perfect’ staff (seven full-time now) with helping Interactive go, in 18 months, from startup to 2011 Xero Partner of the Year, to pulling Pearson himself off the floor of day-to-day operations.
Of his ambitions, he says, “Mostly, I just want to change the accounting industry for the better and resemble more of a startup mentality and software company culture that expands borders and is something to be modelled on.”
No reservations or regrets from this young entrepreneur: “We practice what we preach and are damn proud of it.”
Anthill asks: Guy Pearson, what is your super power?
Like the Juggernaut, I bust through walls that everyone else goes around or over. Never say not possible, or you’ll just put up a wall waiting for me to bring down!
