What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year’s batch of nominees was extensive and impressive. So much so that we believe several young talents who didn’t snag 30under30 top honours still deserve your attention and recognition. We call them our Up-and-Comers. More.

Flic Manning started preparing for her current venture when she was three years old. That’s when she first started to dance and perform. Today, she’s the kinetic force behind Evixa dance studios, where pupils learn Manning’s eclectic, athletic mix of hip hop and Latin styles.
Evixa started with one class in a single location. Nowadays, Manning oversees 15 classes and five dance instructors in five locations. Manning also has put together a music video with some of her elite students; it’s a marketing tool designed to attract the attention of other music-vid producers.
“Evixa is one of my dreams. It’s a fusion dance company,” Manning says. “As a choreographer, I don’t like playing by all the rules of dance, so I formed a company where we put dance styles together to create something new — essentially breaking some unwritten and written rules.
“It’s about fitness and creativity, and about people finding a unique home for themselves in dance. We specialise in music video performance and promote the dreams of all involved in the business.”
Manning found her first two staffers from the music video. One of those dancers now not only teaches but has taken on a marketing role. “That’s where her passion lies,” Manning says. “I found in them what their dream was, and was able to link my company to it.”
In addition to the music video, Manning talks up Evixa on Facebook and Twitter, along with good, old face-to-face chatter. “I can talk to anyone and create a friendship with anyone,” she says. “Age, gender and background are no obstacle. I see other people’s dreams and potential, and ask myself what I can do to help them and what they can do to help me — and work on that until I can a good answer.”
Anthill asks: Flic Manning, what motivates you?
“I have a rebellious streak. I like to test boundaries and feel that to have a legacy, I must be willing to put it all on the line. I want to leave something of worth when I leave this world — and I don’t see the point of waiting until I’m 60 to do it.”
