What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.
Finn Kelly, VIC (b. 1984)
Name: Finn Kelly
Age: 27 (Born: November 1984)
Known for: Wealth Enhancers
Wealth Enhancers is a business that bills itself as a financial advisory firm to the stars, giving successful professionals a blueprint for fulfilling their ‘life goals’ through fiscal enrichment. When Melbourne’s finest walk through the CEO’s door to have their portfolios analysed, they find themselves face-to-face with Finn Kelly — a charming socialite who, they quickly realise, is half his clients’ age.
Kelly is wrapping up his 28th year in good spirits, though his cool, fun-loving demeanour hides the fact that he’s spent the majority of his adulthood pretty much working his gut off. After serving seven years as an army officer, he developed a knack for stocks and currency trading. His initial business, which focused on international education and training, didn’t go far. Now, with his vision and investment smarts, he’s in his element. No longer an up and comer, he’s a veritable mover and shaker.
One can easily salivate at the numbers Kelly has worked with at WE: growing the firm’s revenue from five figures to seven in only two years. Over $150 million in client funds managed. Offices in Melbourne and Sydney, with Perth and Brisbane in the works.
But Kelly’s achievements are best understood by emphasising the personal — just like WE does with its clients. Friends describe a man of astronomically high standards who accepts no boundaries. He makes financial concepts crystal clear for professionals who don’t know their way around a portfolio. And there’s never any doubting the breadth of his social skills, his ability to make doors open, and his uncomplicated art of having scads of fun.
“Finn can talk his way into any situation,” says colleague and WE co-founder Sarah Riegelhuth. She relates a story to illustrate: one afternoon, she and Kelly were looking out from their Docklands apartment admiring the yachts idling in the harbour. “I said, ‘I bet you will get on one of those boats by the end of the year,'” Riegelhuth recalls.
“He looked at me, confused, and said, ‘Yeah, I’m just trying to decide which one I want to go on!'”
Anthill asks: Finn Kelly, what gives you entrepreneurial cred?
“Talking the talk, walking the walk! Winner of AFA Excellence in Education Award. Holder of 5 diplomas, Grad Dip and a double degree in Maths and Physics. And, of course…being a 30under30 Up and Comer last year!”
