1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation initially came to life when…

I start working in jewellery manufacturing in Sydney. I saw the big demand of diamonds in jewellery industry however I didn’t agree with the story behind it (their huge environmental and social impact of diamond mines). The I realised that the technology learned in my university degree (Material Science and Engineering, UNSW) can be used in synthesise diamond. The business idea grew larger when I attended International Jewellery expo held in Sydney – not single diamond wholesalers were selling lab grown diamonds in Australia.

So this is why I decided to be the diamond grower in Australia.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

…provide diamonds that are grown above the ground in jewellery industry and beyond. My business offer custom made engagement rings using 100% lab grown diamonds.

It does this by…

…being absolutely transparent with the source of diamonds to the clients. Very intimate bespoke experience, and making sure that product creates story – from the design to handmade production.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Lab grown diamonds are so much better in every aspect compare to mined conventional diamonds – environmental, ethical and higher purity. The raw material itself is greenhouse gas to produce diamond and the process is carbon neutral v.s. mined diamond produces 65kg CO2 gas during the mining process.

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Getting the most ethical, sustainable and beautiful form of LOVE on their finger. No more worrying about someone sacrificing their life on poor working condition on the other side of the world.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

People who are conscious about environment and ethics given up on purchasing diamond rings. The statistics are showing the decline of natural diamond sales internationally.

Startups in US growing diamonds largely already (Diamond Foundry).

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Couple that are in the long term relationship (age:25~40) and are interested in environmental sustainability and new technology. The market size is 300,000 people within Sydney itself.

It is available for sale through…

Individual consultation, where I discuss with my clients to decide the unique ring design.

Planning to expand online platform soon – where customers can “design/build” their own unique ring.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Sell environmental sustainability, ethical conscious and product that is tailored uniquely to individual customers.

We sell not just the product but the story that is created around it to be the part of client’s very significant moment of their life (proposing and wedding).
