What is the 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians.

Each year, we invite our readers to nominate young Australian entrepreneurs deserving of recognition for their outstanding entrepreneurial endeavours. More.

Anthony Lam, VIC (b. 1989)

Name: Anthony Lam
Age: 24 (Born: October 1989)
Gender: Male
State: VIC
Known for: Punchy Digital Media

Anthony was studying a full time double degree of commerce and law and at the same time trying to make some bucks online to support his university lifestyle by selling websites as well as social media marketing packages.

He soon realised that his business needed a video to sell its services.

However, clients kept asking him where he got his videos made and Anthony soon found it was actually easier to sell the videos rather than the actual services he was trying to market.

He started Punchy Sales Videos in 2012 — now Punchy Digital Media, out of his own savings, to offer video marketing and strategies for businesses looking to rapidly grow online.

Anthony says he was extremely fortunate because this was early on, before there were many competitors offering the same service of live video and animated video production.

However, the sharks soon smelled blood and competitors started popping up in the market.

On top of that, Anthony was also facing the challenge of lack of enough repeat business: most of Punchy Sales Videos’ customers would only purchase one video and never return – and not because the videos were awful or anything, they simply didn’t need more than one.

“We rebranded our company to Punchy Digital Media, and took the angle of offering video marketing strategies, this way we could expand our services to also include live corporate and promotional video production, and also video content marketing packages.”

This opened up opportunities for recurring revenue as clients would come back regularly for more video content as compared to the animated video where they only needed one.

Punchy Digital Media has already worked with over 100 clients worldwide in just slightly over two years, achieved over 350 per cent in sales growth this year and doubled its staff members within the past 6 months.

Anthony was a finalist for Entrepreneurs’ Organisation/ Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in 2012 and 2013 and at the 2013 Australian Start-up Awards.

However, he does more than just entrepreneurship alone.

Anthony is also involved in charity – he helped create the James Marcon Youth Health Foundation, which supports Australian youth affected by mental health. In 2013, they raised over $60,000 to support Orygen Youth Health.

Anthill asks: Anthony Lam, what’s your super power?

I have this strange ability to effortlessly find resources instantly to help overcome my challenges. Whether it is finding extremely valuable information, making contact and meeting certain people, I always seem to be able to find the resources very easily where others don’t.
