1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

ChekRite directors Roger and Mark – who have both spent years in mining and construction, servicing and inspecting equipment to ensure it was safe and ready to work – got talking during the drive to an outback mine site.

They figured there had to be a better way than completing endless forms using pen, paper and clipboards. They mentioned this to Roger’s son Jordan (a fellow director) who has a background in AI and software engineering.

Together they saw a way to use Apple’s iPad to meet the needs of any organisation undertaking regular equipment/facilities inspections – and ChekRite was born!

It was initially launched in November 2013 and a significantly newer version of the app has recently been released in April this year.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

Provide an easy to use, infinitely customisable interface for any organisation that needs to regularly check or inspect equipment or facilities, and maintain a complete audit/compliance trail.

It does this by…

Making use of Apple’s iOS/iPad technology to provide an infinitely customisable user-interface for equipment/facilities inspections that ensures each inspection is carried out completely and consistently each time.

Data from each inspection is uploaded automatically to a secure server for immediate and permanent access for auditing, compliance, management and analysis requirements.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

Previously regular inspections/checks have required the use of paper-based checklists, which are time-consuming and prone to misinterpretation, illegibility, misplacement, damage etc – and that’s before working out how to capture and retain the data.

Plus, they cause very high levels of user frustration for service personnel and management. You’ve heard the phrase, “I’m buried in paperwork” before, right?

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

A consistent, reliable inspection/audit trail, providing a complete record of equipment/facilities condition and maintenance/service requirement. It also cuts by around 50 per cent the time required to carry out equipment/facilities inspections.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Using paper-based checklists and clipboards. Instead, ChekRite uses the latest secure Apple iOS/iPad technology to do away with these, and the attendant inaccuracies, shortcomings and user frustrations.

It captures, stores and retrieves information fast and accurately, eliminating rekeying of data for analysis. Because it’s digital right from the start, analysis is easier and the chances of mistakes occurring are greatly reduced.

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Sheets of pre-printed paper, pens and clipboards. And a separate digital camera was required to capture images of any items that needed highlighting.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

Any organisation that needs to carry out regular inspections or checks of equipment (fixed and mobile) or facilities.

Applications for ChekRite are unlimited, and we are discovering potential new client opportunities every day in mining, construction, transport, logistics, warehousing, fast food outlets, government agencies, real estate, hospitality, tourism, manufacturing and more.

It is available for sale through…

Apple’s App Store as a free download. Clients register with ChekRite, we set them up with an account, and assist them to develop checklists specific to their requirements (no programming required!). Payment is on a per-inspection basis.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Use a wide range of marketing strategies, including word-of-mouth, personal contacts, traditional PR/advertising, social media, YouTube/Vimeo testimonials and even some of that good old-fashioned cold calling.
