<p>Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 29 February 2012 – 2 March 2012, the conference will consist of workshops, sessions exploring industry and tech trends, and discussions around what the community can do to ensure sustainable support for startups in the Australian economy.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The good folk at Innovation Bay are calling for video pitch submissions for its next Angels Dinner on February 21, 2012.</p>
<p>For those of you who’ve not had the pleasure, Innovation  Bay’s Angel Dinners bring together angels and entrepreneurs. To date, the organisation has assisted entrepreneurs raise over $10 million in seed investment as a result of these dinners. (Heard of Spreets? Yup? Innovation Bay kick started the group buying behemoths capital raising endeavours.)</p>
<p>Are you an entrepreneur in the high-tech space? Fancy a bit of funding? Then you may well be interested in pitching at this event, held at Table for 20 in Surry Hills, Sydney.</p>
<p>Here’s what you need to do before 5pm, Feb 10:</p>
<ul>
<li>Submit a 90-second video in any format – don’t exceed the time limit – to <a href="mailto:info@innovationbay.com">info@innovationbay.com</a></li>
<li>Spill the deets on your business and why Innovation Bay should select you to take part in the next Angels Dinner</li>
<li>Explain your value proposition in a strong and punchy format. Why are you poised to succeed and why would someone want to invest in your business?</li>

<li>What problem you are solving and do you offer a different solution</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>At the Startup Weekend Melbourne, Australian entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas before a panel of venture capitalists and incubators which are looking for the next big thing. The winning idea will win $5,000, mentoring support and a chance to enter a $15,000, three-month incubator program. </em></p>
<p>Between the 4 and 6 of November 2011, Australian entrepreneurs who are looking for funding and mentoring to take their bright startup ideas into the next level will be allowed to pitch them in front of a panel of venture capitalists and incubators at the <a href="http://melbourne.startupweekend.org/2011/10/08/216/" target="_blank">Startup Weekend Melbourne</a>.</p>
<p>According to the winner of the 2010 Startup Weekends in San Francisco and New York and event organiser Tyson Lundbech, “the Startup Weekend is a great way to reach the right people with the funds and gain the skills, contacts and expert mentorship required to bring business ideas to life.”</p>
<p>Among the crowd will be two regional venture capital funds &#8212; SingTel Innov8 and JFDI, which will be hunting for startup ideas to include in their funds and to share their access to the Asian market.</p>
<h1>The program</h1>
<p>The event will begin on Friday the 4<sup>th</sup> when ideas will be pitched and the first votes will be cast to choose the best ones.</p>
<p>The chosen will then proceed to form several teams which will then start developing the ideas, focusing on customer development, lean startup methods and on building a viable product. The groups will proceed their work on the next day, when they will receive special mentoring.</p>
<p>On the final day, teams will present their prototype and will receive critical assessment from an expert panel.</p>
<p>Finally, a winner will be chosen.</p>
<p>The winning idea will take away a $5,000 prize as well as mentoring support. JFDI and Innov8 will also give the winner a chance to enter a $15,000, three-month incubator program in Singapore.</p>
<p>“Australian startups are very fortunate in that they have access to a network of entrepreneurs, seed funds, investors, co-working spaces and incubators which provide a supportive platform to nurture new business ideas. These people are building the next Silicon Valley right here in Australia,” said Tyson Lundbech.</p>

<p>According to its press release, the 16-18 November conference is about “world changing innovators, futurists, inspired thinkers and curious souls gathered together in an interactive community…A place to imagine the future.”</p>
<p>Participants will have the opportunity to hear from Raymond Kurzweil, one of the USA’s leading entrepreneurs, and Daniel Dennett, an acclaimed philosopher and cognitive scientist.  Other names include: Edward De Bono, Tan Le, Paddy Miller, Simon McKeon and several more.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ambitious Australian business owners are being given the opportunity this October to receive fiscal and networking support to help meet their goals – all in a five-minute pitch!</p>
<p>According to the MyBiz press release, the two-day event, held on October 6-7, “offer[s] attendees the opportunity to meet like-minded business owners and suppliers, in addition to the opportunity to attend a networking cooking demonstration where guests will be able to expand their business networks.”</p>
<p>On Friday 7 October, three one-hour pitching sessions will take place, with the winner announced at the end.  In their words, the winning pitch will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Represent genuine innovation</li>
<li>Possess a well thought-out business plan</li>
<li>Positively reek of entrepreneurial spirit</li>
<li>Impress judges in a very short amount of time</li>
</ul>
<p>The winning business will receive a $5,000 investment!</p>
<p>Sessions will each feature 12 participants, and signing up can be done by pre-registering at the MyBiz website.  Each session is chaired by <em>My Business</em> editor Simon Sharwood and judged by prominent business experts.</p>

<p>Innovation Bay is calling for 90-second video pitches from businesses that will aim to convince the organisation’s members to award a pitch spot at the dinner.</p>
<p>The dinner will feature the top four pitches chosen by the panel.</p>
<p>According to the media release, the pitches are instructed to do the following:</p>
<blockquote><p>1) Tell us about your business and why we should select you</p>
<p>2) Explain your value proposition in a strong and punchy format</p>
<p>3) Do not exceed the 90-second limit</p></blockquote>
<p>The video pitches will be uploaded to Innovation Bay Angel’s website, where members will vote.</p>
<p>Pitches are due by 5 November 2011.</p>
