Assisted-walking with Honda’s new ‘Robolegs’
The global economic crisis might have ravaged the once mighty Japanese auto industry, but it’s good to see that Honda continues to flex its R&D muscle in atypical areas. On Tuesday, Honda introduced a New York City audience to its ground-breaking robo walking assist devices. As the Wired Science blog noted, the devices, which “combine [...]
Website of the Week: The Mobiler
This week, Gizmag launched The Mobiler, a sister site covering all things mobile. With the release of Apple’s iPhone, Research In Motion’s Blackberry Storm, Google’s Android project and other cutting edge products, it’s safe to say that mobile is hot right now.
30under30 Awards – Now Open!
That’s why we launched the 30under30 Awards in late 2007. And that’s why we invite you to nominate yourself or a worthy young entrepreneur. The top 30 will be profiled in the Jul/Aug/Sep edition of Anthill Magazine.
To nominate, click here.
Website of the Week: Don’t buy – save your cash and rent at Rentoid.com
While Rentoid contains the everyday items you’d expect to see listed (chainsaws, ladders, laptop computers, air conditioners, etc.) there are also some deliciously oddball items. You can rent an island, sports cars, private jets, a unicycle, a driveway, a full-size wrestling ring, an R2D2 projector, even a wife (listed in the “antique” category).
Twittering about Anthill
When we made our big announcement yesterday that Anthill Magazine had become a quarterly publication, we never expected to receive the flood of emails, SMS messages and phone calls of support. But we were intrigued to discover that we’d become a discussion topic among the chirperati on Twitter.
We have good news and bad news
Let’s start with the bad news… Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or an ant hill) for the last six months, you will have noticed that the global economy has suffered a significant downturn. Sadly, despite our best efforts to find innovative solutions to whichever obstacles cross our path (in true Anthillian style), Anthill [...]
Having trouble paying bills? Try digital arachnid!
After listening to a colleague chasing payment from recalcitrant debtors earlier today, I felt compelled to dig up this infectiously funny email chain from South Australian David Thorne. When asked to settle his electricity bill, the commercially creative Adelaide man offered to settle the matter by way of a ‘spider’ drawing. The following is the [...]
Letter from China | China, one scoop at a time
Shanghai. You would think that in China – with its growing power base, its population of more than 1.4bn people and its status as a vibrant international hub – getting a scoop of ice-cream on your desert wouldn’t be so difficult, right? It sounds silly, but this sort of request can be way out of [...]
If you were the PM, how would you spend $42b?
I often trip myself up, spouting strong opinions without all the facts. I suspect this is about to be one of those occasions. Deficits don’t worry me too much (I’m too young to remember the bad-old-days of high deficits and spiraling inflation) and, as a generally optimistic, gung-ho entrepreneur, I’m all for a stimulus package [...]
Why we’re embarrassed about our new website (and proud of it!)
In mid-2008, we wrote about a clever Australian company called TrickyTix on the topic of Product Development. TrickyTix CEO Scott Handsaker provided us with the following prescient quote, which I’ve paraphrased: “If you’re not slightly embarrassed about your new web product when you launch, you’re too late.” This week, we launched a new website. You’re [...]
