1. THE BEGINNING

This innovation came to life when…

Troy accidently pulled out an asthma plan from his filing cabinet at home. He was horrified that this document, designed to save his son’s life, was gathering dust and not shared with all the carers responsible for caring for his child. In the age of social networking, he decided to build a secure social care network, the ‘Facebook of health and safety’, to allow schools and clubs to automatically collect electronic health records from parents and make them instantly available to teachers and coaches on mobile devices, even without Internet access…the perfect solution for excursions and camps.

2. WHAT & HOW

The purpose of this innovation is to…

The purpose of this innovation is to automatically keep medical and emergency details (e.g. emergency contacts, allergies, asthma plans, medications and other instructions) up to date for schools, clubs and families and make them instantly accessible to the carers who have a duty of care.

It does this by…

The group administrator uses a web app for inviting parents (via email) to submit health and safety information. The parent completes an electronic form. A teacher or coach can then view the emergency data on their smartphone, tablet or via the secure website. The parent updates the data at any time, ensuring all viewers of the data have the latest information.

3. PURPOSE & BENEFITS

This innovation improves on what came before because…

What came before is a paper-based headache for schools, clubs and parents. CareMonkey is a productivity solution for any group with a duty of care whilst also being a health and safety solution offering unprecedented access to up-to-date health and safety details for carers. Parents share the same care profile with school, clubs and grandma — convenience!

Its various benefits to the customer/end-user include…

Automating the costly process of collecting, updating and following up missing health and safety information reducing the burden on schools, clubs and parents. Children are safer as carers can respond quickly and avoid medical errors in emergencies.

4. COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE

In the past, this problem was solved by…

Collecting the same information on paper-based forms multiple times throughout the year (e.g. at enrolment, excursions and camps). CareMonkey automates this process. Parents complete the details once and then make updates at any time. CareMonkey sends reminders to the parent to complete data and re-check at predefined intervals. This process eliminates the pain for schools, clubs and the parents!

Its predecessors/competitors include…

Paper-based forms or school administration portals with limited health and safety data, limited access and visibility to the people responsible for delivering the care. A care profile that can be shared with schools, clubs and individuals is unique worldwide.

5. TARGET MARKET

It is made for…

It is made for any group with a duty of care. We are initially targeting schools in Australia (10,000) and schools in USA (125,000) as schools collect health data throughout the year and this is a very painful process for schools and the parents. We are also working with partners for clubs (more than 30,000 in Australia). Businesses have also purchased our solution as an HR safety tool. There are many other target markets such as day care, kindergarten, retirement villages, etc., but we will remain focussed on schools in the short term until we nail that market place.

It is available for sale through…

We are building a solid customer base through direct sales. Our plan is to leverage references and close the majority of sales online via self service or call centre style similar to salesforce.com’s approach. We’re building a partner program too.

Our marketing strategy is to…

Our strategy is to sell directly to private schools and build our references and reputation whilst we work with state government to become a recognised solution in the public sector. The schools refer us to other schools via their networks so we focus on customer success with a passion and this is providing many referrals. We’re experimenting and learning what marketing works best now!
