What is 30under30?

30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in early 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year saw a surplus of highly qualified entrants, so we thought we would highlight some of the bright and innovative nominees who just missed the Top 30 by a wink. When he was a gap-year vagabond in Portugal and in need of cash, Bradley Hampel went to a nightclub and asked if he could DJ for them. In fact, he had never touched a deck in his life.

That didn’t stop him from trumping up his reputation and winning the gig. Needless to say, he learned fast, returning to Australia with a sense of accomplishment and a hunger for more.

Solution Entertainment has grown out of Hampel’s quest for total control and influence.

“I was sick and tired of chasing people in the events industry for quotes without response,” he recalls. “I thought that if I could turn the process into an enjoyable experience, clients would be extremely happy.

“Today, Solution Entertainment caters events for clients — from Formula One to International World Cup Sailing — who admire Hampel’s creative approach to unleashing the party animal within.

The best events are participatory, letting guests enliven their photos with a digital spray can, or take a DJ master class and spin their own decks. “I will do anything to create a buzz about the innovation,” says Hampel, who converted a South Yarra warehouse into his own edgy office.

“It is all about the vibe.”

My super power would have to be persistence. I simply cannot handle being told NO or comprehend not getting what I want.

My grandmother told me that if you want something in life, all you have to do is bend over and pick it up. She is spot on.
