What is 30under30?
30under30 is an Anthill initiative launched in 2008 to encourage and promote entrepreneurship among young Australians. This year’s batch of nominees was extensive and impressive. So much so that we believe several young talents who didn’t snag 30under30 top honours still deserve your attention and recognition. We call them our Up-and-Comers. More.
Ben Hall, QLD (b. 1985)
Name: Ben Hall
Age: 25 (Born: November 1985)
As a 25-year-old lawyer, Ben Hall knows it takes a few tonnes of determination to introduce new ideas to a profession set in its ways.
Hall is up to the challenge. As the managing director of a site that provides free, interactive consultations about family law, Hall is giving people a hand during what can be a time of paralysing stress.
The online business, Love Law, which Hall runs with a group of other Australian family lawyers, offers Internet-powered direction on family law, gives clients questionnaires on legal issues surrounding divorce and separation; prenuptials; parent and grandparent rights; live-in partnerships; and same-sex unions.
If the client, after finishing the consultation, wants legal representation, Love Law will help link the person to a vetted “professional partner” fully versed in family law.
“I have found and run with an opportunity to bring value to others using technology in an industry known for its conservative values and resistance to change,” Hall says.
Love Law was launched earlier this year, so the bottom line is still forming. But the potential is huge — the family law industry in Australia pulls in about $5 billion a year.
Has Hall experienced any setbacks in this entrepreneurial venture? No, he says. “Problems are opportunities in work clothes. The bigger the problem, the bigger the opportunity on the flipside.”
At this point, selling Love Law to the nation’s legal community is a top job, and Hall says he’s up to the challenge. “I have able to effectively communicate the opportunities afforded by the Internet to conservative lawyers and show them why they can’t afford not to be involved.”
Anthill asks: Ben Hall, what’s your superpower?
“Being an optimistic lawyer. My legal mind assists me to move my optimism toward pessimism and arrive at realism somewhere in between.”
