A local startup that has developed new technology to help ensure elderly people’s health and wellbeing is in line to compete for $1 million in fresh investment after winning the Brisbane regional final of the StartCon Pitch for $1 Million competition, held by StartCon, Australia’s largest startup and growth conference.

Conpago, based in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, integrates technology and the daily habits of elderly people with appliances that let them remain connected with their family while also creating a social health monitoring solution.

One of the company’s creations, the ‘Conpago Companion’, is a tablet designed specifically for the elderly. It takes the core features of modern cell phones and places them on an easy-to-use platform, allowing the elderly to keep connected to their family and friends.

Used in conjunction with the ‘Conpago Lite’ system, the Brisbane startup’s solution detects when an appliance is in use, and when linked with the ‘Conpago Companion’ smart tablet, it can be used to help bring elderly people into the digital era.

What went down at the StartCon Pitch?

Conpago battled it out with more than 20 local startups at the StartCon Pitch for $1 Million event in Brisbane on 5 October, winning the competition.

The runners up in the StartCon Pitch for $1 Million competition in Brisbane were Becon Health, which operates a platform for people to connect with health professionals online, and Monarc, the operator of an online booking platform for private aircraft, such as jets and helicopters.

Conpago will now compete with regional winners from more than a dozen StartCon Pitch for $1 Million competition events in Australia and the greater Asia-Pacific region at the StartCon 2018 main event, held from 30 November to 1 December 2018 at Royal Randwick Racecourse, Sydney.

The StartCon Pitch for $1 Million competitions are being held in partnership with Australian venture capital firm Right Click Capital across more than a dozen cities in the Asia-Pacific region, which is home to more than 4 billion people.
